(and training in conducting Ergonomic Assessments)
Employers can request a brief or comprehensive ergonomic assessment report, based on the reason for the assessment (e.g. an employee with a workers compensation injury as opposed to ensuring that an asymptomatic new employee is working safely).
During an ergonomic assessment of an employee's workstation, the assessor addresses not only the workstation, but also the associated work role and tasks The assessor gains a history of the person's symptoms and an understanding of the physical and cognitive demands of the person's role. This information is then used to ensure that equipment is correctly positioned and used during the employee's specific tasks.
The consultant also considers cognitive aspects of the role (e.g. work flow, repetition of tasks and rest breaks) as well as environmental factors, such as lighting, noise, temperature and draughts.
Although it may be necessary to use companies such as Re-Start Consulting to perform assessments of people with complicated injuries, we can train members of your organisation to perform basic ergonomic assessments, through a comprehensive one-day course, which can be run at our offices or in your workplace.
